The Billings Mustangs (43-15) suffered a heartbreaking 12-11 loss to the Missoula PaddleHeads on Saturday night at Allegiance Field, as Nich Klemp delivered a walk-off two-run single in the bottom of the ninth inning.

Billings jumped out to an early lead when Charlie Muniz launched a three-run homer in the first inning. The Mustangs added another run in the second on an A.J. Shaver sacrifice fly after Michael Soper opened the inning with a triple to go up 4-0.

Missoula answered with two runs in the bottom of the second, but John McHenry responded with a three-run homer in the third to give Billings a 7-2 advantage.

The PaddleHeads erased that deficit with a six-run fifth inning to take their first lead of the game at 8-7.

The Mustangs tied the game in the sixth after Shaver tripled off the top of the wall in left-center field and scored on a Cameron Bowen sacrifice fly before Soper's RBI single in the seventh put Billings back in front 9-8.

Missoula answered again in the bottom of the seventh as pinch-hitter Bryce Cermenelli delivered a two-run double to give the PaddleHeads a 10-9 lead.

With two outs in the eighth inning, Muniz launched his second home run of the night, a two-run shot, to put the Mustangs back on top 11-10.

Lucas Hartman preserved the lead in the bottom of the eighth, escaping a bases-loaded, no-out jam by striking out Enzo Apodaca and Sergio Gutierrez before inducing an inning-ending groundout.

After Billings was retired in order in the top of the ninth, Missoula rallied in the bottom half. Back-to-back singles and a stolen base put runners at second and third before Klemp's two-run single brought home the tying and winning tallies.

The Mustangs have now lost four of their last five games and have dropped consecutive series for the first time this year. Billings will look to avoid a three-game sweep on Sunday afternoon as Hudson Boncal is scheduled to make the start. First pitch is set for 2:05 p.m.
