The Billings Mustangs (30-9) opened their three-game series against the Great Falls Voyagers (15-25) with an 11-4 victory on Friday night at Voyager Stadium.

The Mustangs wasted no time threatening, loading the bases with nobody out in the first inning against Great Falls left-hander Chance Cox. The Mustangs managed just one run in the frame but broke the game open an inning later.

Billings again loaded the bases in the second and capitalized, sending 12 batters to the plate while scoring six runs to build a commanding 7-0 lead.

Great Falls answered with one run in the second and two more in the third to trim the deficit to 7-3, but the Mustangs continued to add on. Billings scored twice in the fifth inning and two more in the sixth to put the game out of reach.

Cole Calnon (4-1) earned the victory, tying a career high by tossing eight innings. The right-hander allowed four runs while giving the Mustangs valuable length before Carlos Anziani pitched a scoreless ninth inning to close out the win.

Chance Cox (0-1) suffered the loss for the Voyagers.

The Mustangs and Voyagers continue their three-game series on Saturday night in Great Falls. Right-hander Shawn Mannering is expected to make his Mustangs debut with first pitch scheduled for 6:30 pm.
