BILLINGS-Billings Mustangs pitcher Jean Correa has been named the Pioneer League North Division Pitcher of the Week for the week of June 20-26.
Correa earned the award on the strength of his outing on Sunday afternoon against the Boise Hawks. Making a spot start in a planned bullpen day, Correa instead turned in the best and longest outing by a Mustangs pitcher this season, tossing 7.0 no-hit innings before allowing a single with no outs in the eighth.
Correa retired 19 straight hitters from the first through seven innings throughout his outing, in which he allowed one hit, one unearned run, no walks, and four strikeouts over 7.0 innings, picking up the win in an 8-1 victory.
The 24-year-old right-hander out of Venezuela also threw a scoreless inning with a strikeout to close out a victory on Wednesday.
On the season, Correa is 3-0 with a 4.57 ERA over 21.2 innings, with just five walks and 18 strikeouts. He also becomes the second Mustang to win a player of the week award after outfielder Jalen Garcia earned Co-Player of the Week honors the week before.
The Mustangs are off on Tuesday before opening a six-game series on Wednesday afternoon in Colorado Springs against the Rocky Mountain Vibes. Billings returns home on Wednesday, July 6 against Boise.
